NEW DELHI: The Editors Guild of India has voiced shock in the’cavalier manner’ where the Uttar Pradesh authorities is managing the event of TV journalist Sulabh Srivastava, who had been found dead under mysterious conditions.
In a media statement issued Monday, the guild alleged that the UP Police had ignored concerns about danger to his own life, despite him composing to senior police officers.
Srivastava was found injured in a roadside on Sunday night, apparently after becoming engaged in a bicycle crash.
He died after being taken to a hospital.
The authorities had originally enrolled a case of accidental death, but has become probing it following a complaint from Sulabh’s spouse.
She’s blamed the spirits mafia which Sulabh subjected in his reportage.
The guild has stated that the press in India is under pressure in the state and central authorities over subsequent to the official story of covering the Covid pandemic.
Journalists are being plagued, slapped with UAPA and detained to be critical of their authorities, the guild has been alleged, in contravention to soul of free media as laid down in many court conclusions.
The guild also stated that social networking programs are being made to eliminate articles critical of the government on pretext of being violative of legislation.
The guild’s announcement stated that the hardline attitude towards journalists would be against PM Modi’s speech in the recent G7 meeting recommending unity and democracy.
