Noida: The District Development Residents Welfare Association (DDRWA), industry bodies and village associations held an online meeting with senior power department officials on Friday and raised the issue of prolonged power cuts.
At the meeting, residents demanded the removal of fixed charges in electricity bills and discussed why frequent tripping, voltage fluctuations and power cuts were so often at the slightest shower or strong winds.
They also demanded improving infrastructure of old wiring, transformers, rusting poles etc.
and issuing of a WhatsApp number for complaint registration.
NP Singh, president of DDRWA, said that the meeting was essential because of the frequent power cuts that are increasing with rising temperatures.
“There is also a need to address the maintenance issues of the transmission system.
In today’s meeting, most of the RWAs, federations, industries and village associations of the district participated and apprised the officers of the problems faced in their respective areas,” he said.
On frequent tripping across many sectors, power officials said that interruption of supply during high wind is for the safety of residents and to keep the power cut to a minimum.
“We will try to reduce the number of trippings to a minimum,” said VN Singh chief zonal engineer Noida power department.
Residents also pointed out that the condition of transformers in many areas are old, rusting and in need of replacement.
To this, officials of the power department said that the performance of transformers do not depreciate with time.
“The cause of damages can be overloading, and we will check such transformers on complaints received and will upgrade them to higher capacity where necessary,” said Singh.
