Pune: When the Wall of the Panghet burst exploded, reaching Parvati such as walking in the forest and the house located on the road made of mud.
After the walls exploded causing flooding in the Peth, Kothrud, Maharshinagar and surrounding areas into the preferred housing zone and stronger cement buildings emerged.
This and many other interesting anecdotes from 1961 have been studied and will be published by researchers and author-based writers of Ashlesha Mahajan.
This will be 60 years to decisive days on Monday.
Mahajan’s book, titled July 12, 1961, will be released on Monday.
This book is based on the disaster of the Panshet Dam.
The author interviewed nearly 100 residents of Pune, who had flooded.
He also studied 10-12 books and research papers by the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics to collect books.
“Going towards Parvati walked for a long time at the time and there were lots of trees and medicinal plants on the way.
The only mode of transportation was a bicycle.
After the flood struck, people even went up to the top of Parvati Hill to save themselves from increasing water levels.
People narrated their stories about how they lost important documents, including proof of ownership of their homes and land, “Mahajan said.
He shared that someone with a direct experience of the incident also stated that during the flood there was very few multilevel buildings.
The only five-story structure is on Jalan Bajirao.
Most of the settlements are in Chawl and Wadas so that water comes to the houses in the Peth area and take some life.
Mahajan said, “At that time, there was a lot of differences in the way people live as families.
Families do not have separate rooms for children and elderlyians.
Everyone lives in a single room.
Also, this is the time when the suburbs are established and Kothrud, Sahakarnagar , Maharshinagar and coexist areas develop as a flood impact.
