Taipei: US warships sailed again through a taiwan strait sensitive on Tuesday, part of what the US military called routine activities but always Chinese riles whose government believed Washington tried to stir regional tensions.
The US Navy said the destroyer of the Mili Jurke-Class Milius Missiles conducted a “routine Taiwan Strait transit” through international waters in accordance with international law.
“The transit of the ship through the Taiwan Strait shows US commitment to Indo-Pacific which is free and open.
The United States military is flying, sailing, and operating wherever international law allows,” he added.
There is no direct response from China.
Last month, the Chinese military condemned the United States and Canada for each of them sent warships through the Taiwan Strait, by saying they threatened peace and stability in the region.
China claims democratically ruled Taiwan as its own territory, and has installed a repeat air force mission to the Taiwan Air Defense Identification Zone (Adiz) over the past year, provoking anger in Taipei.
United States like most countries do not have formal diplomatic bonds with Taiwan but are supporting suppliers and the most important international arms.
Beijing calls Taiwan’s most sensitive and important problems in conjunction with Washington.
US naval ships have transit the Strait about every month, with Beijing’s anger.
US allies occasionally also sent ships through the Strait, including England in September.
