At least a dozen colleges and black universities in the United States received a bomb threat and put their campus on locking on Tuesday, a day after a similar threat rash imposed a class cancellation in other schools.
The threat to schools in cities from Baltimore to New Orleans came on the first day of black history in the United States.
“We don’t think that by coincidence that we accept this special threat at this special time,” said A.
Zachary Faison, Jr., University of Education Edward Waters Florida in Jacksonville.
School officials called for a thorough inquiry.
A caller warned Jacksonville Sheriff’s office at around 3:30 a.m.
(EST) on Tuesday that “several explosive devices” had been placed around the Edward Waters campus and will be blown up 12 hours later, followed by school shooting, according to Faison.
Faison said local law enforcement was still patrolling his campus with dogs on midday Tuesday.
The Sheriff Jacksonville office refused to comment on the ongoing investigation.
The threat came when the United States continued to take into account racial injustice after the killing of black blacks in many years has recently like George Floyd and battle pitched to teaching in public schools “critical racing theory,” which places history institutionalized.
Racism becomes a larger context.
US Representative Bennie Thompson, Chair of the Homeland House security committee, called Tuesday’s threat to universities and black historical universities (HBCU) “was very disturbing and disappointing” in a statement, and asked the Federal Investigation Bureau and the Homeland Security Department to fully investigate them.
“Not lost on me that this threat targets African American education institutions when we observe the black history,” Thompson said in the statement.
FBI “conscious” of the threat of a bomb and “works with our law enforcement partners to overcome all potential threats,” he said in a statement.
This encourages public members to report something suspicious of the bureau.
Howard University in Washington, Morgan State University in Maryland, Spelman College in Georgia and Xavier University of Louisiana are among HBCU who received threats, according to Twitter Posts and statements from school.
“We have contacted local and federal officials to request campus security assistance and request a federal investigation into this threat to be carried out immediately,” said Mary Schmidt Campbell, President Spelman College, in a statement.
During the day on Tuesday, at least six HBCU who received threats had investigated them and issued “all clear” messages, although some, including Spelman and Tougaloo College in Mississippi, still holding the class virtually for that day.
Tougaloo has never received a threat as he did on Tuesday, according to a university spokesman.
On Monday, some other HBCU told students and staff to take refuge in place and cancel the class for that day after a similar bomb threat.
Authorities said they did not find suspicious devices, which allowed school to reopen.
Howard University, one of the HBCU who also received the threat on Monday, gave a clear Tuesday morning after the campus received a threat around 2:55 a.m., he said on Twitter.
