New Delhi: The US on Wednesday entered the Black NSO list of the Israeli Group, a spyware maker Pegasus, who was in the center of controversy around the world on charges of reconnaissance.
A media consortium earlier this year has found that Pegasus NSO is used by governments around the world for successful telephone hacking or trying to be political opponents, dissidents, business executives, human rights activists and others.
Smartphones infected with Pegasus basically turn into pocket spy devices, allowing users to read target messages, look through their photos, track their location and even activate their cameras without knowing.
Besides NSO, three other companies have also been recorded by us.
The US said the tools of these companies have “allowed foreign governments to carry out transnational repression, which is an authoritarian government practice that targets dissidents, journalists, and activists outside their kingarabian border to silence differences of opinion.” NSO said it would try to reverse US decisions.
“The NSO Group is disappointed with the decision, given that our technology supports US national security interests and policies by preventing terrorism and evil, and thus we will advocate for this decision to be reversed,” NSO spokesman told AFP.
The US step is bound to have an echo in India, which sees great political controversy after the names of some politicians, journalists, activists, and entrepreneurs appear in the list of potential pegasus targets leaking.

The Supreme Court recently ordered an expert panel of three members to investigate the accusation of spying by the government using Pegasus Spyware.
This is after the center refuses to provide a written statement quoting national security.
The US announcement will come as an encouragement for opposition parties that have greatly demanded details of the use of spyware by the state.
Washington also targets Israeli Candiru companies, consultants for Singapore computer security initiatives, and a positive technology of Russian companies.
These companies have been added to what is called “list entities”, which means that exports to them from US organizations are limited.
Stewart Baker, a Cybersecurity lawyer and former general advisor at the National Security Agency, said that it still had to be seen how much the impact of Wednesday’s announcement would have NSO’s long-term health.
He said the trade department would have significant wisdom in handling license requests related to the NSO group, and could face pressure from US exporters and the Israeli government.
“We can see situations where sanctions have been given and have a great symbolic significance and some practical meanings for NSO, but of course not the death penalty and maybe from time to time just really deteriorating,” he said.
