KABUL: United States on Thursday condemned the “unlawful arrest” of several members of the Afghan government including the civil leaders by the Taliban and called for their direct release, the US Embassy in Kabul.
In a statement posted on Twitter, the US Embassy in Kabul said “greatly condemned the arrest of the law from several members of the Afghan government, including civil leaders and Afghan national defense and security forces officers.” Embassies said that credible sources showed that the Taliban had detained provincial government officials and members of the Afghan police in several locations.
Furthermore, it said that this action was unacceptable and contrary to the Taliban claim to support the settlement negotiated in the ongoing DOHA peace process.
The action also contrasted with Taliban rhetoric who provided for the safety of leaders and Afghan forces in the regions recently confiscated by the Taliban.
“We urge direct releases of all Afghan government officials detained by the Taliban.
In addition, we call the Taliban to be completely and truly involved in negotiations that end the suffering of the people of Afghanistan and pave the way for inclusive political settlement that utilizes all.

Meanwhile, the Taliban had arrested Herat, the third largest city in the country and the 11th provincial capital in Afghanistan was under the control of the Taliban.
Afghanistan witnessed a surge in violence because the Taliban had intensified his attack on Afghan forces and civilians with a full setback for foreign troops just a few weeks.
