WASHINGTON: Defense officials over the United States and Pakistan during telephone conversations discussing a sustainable situation in Afghanistan and regional security, the Pentagon said in a statement on Monday.
This phone call comes in the middle of the Troika meeting which is expanded by Russia, China and the United States along with Pakistan in Afghan settlement.
“Lloyd Austin defense secretary spoke by telephone with Pakistani Army staff, General Qamar Javed Bajwa to discuss our security and stability goals in the region,” said Department of Press Secretary John Kirby.
“Secretary of Austin and General Bajwa discussed ongoing situations in Afghanistan, regional security and stability, and wider bilateral defense relationship,” the statement added.
Several rights groups have reported violations of human rights and war crimes in the region held by the Taliban.
At least 27 children have been killed and 136 injured for the last 72 hours when violence increased in Afghanistan, said UNICEF on Monday.
The UN agency said it was “shocked by fast escalation of violations of rights to children” in Afghanistan.
Austin and the last Bajwa discussed the US Drawdown from Afghanistan in April.
