WASHINGTON: US Defense Secretary, Lloyd Austin, will visit Southeast Asia later this month, the Pentagon said the journey that would include a stop in the Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam, according to the US Embassy in Hanoi.
“The visit of the Secretary of Austin will show the importance of Biden-Harris’s administration locate in Southeast Asia and in ASEAN as an important part of the Indo-Pacific architecture,” said Pentagon spokesman John Kirby, referred to the Association of Block Southeast Asian.
The US Embassy in Hanoi said on Tuesday that Austin’s journey will begin on July 23.
“This trip will underline the middle US commitment to the region, and our interest in enforcing the rules-based international order in the region and promoting the Sentrality of ASEAN,” the embassy said at Facebook post.
