Seoul: The US on Sunday urged North Korea to stop the “counterproductive” missile test, but expressed hope Pyongyang would respond positively to the Washington dialogue call.
It came after North Korea fired ballistic missiles launched by diving (SLBM) on Tuesday, encouraging the emergency meeting of the UN Security Council.
US special representatives in North Korea Sung Kim met with South colleagues Noh Kyu-duk after meeting with their Japanese partners in Washington.
He labeled Tuesday launched “provocation”, and urged Pyongyang to stop the missile test “about and counterproductive”.
“We hope the DPRK will respond positively to our outreach,” Kim told reporters in Seoul, using the North Korean official acronym.
Tuesday’s launch was the latest in a series of weapons tests recently in this country, including long-distance cruise missiles, weapons launched by trains, and what he said was hypersonic warheads.
Earlier this month, North Korean leader Kim Jong United Nations blamed the United States for sanctions, dismissing Washington’s statement that it did not have hostile intentions.
Kim met three times with former President Donald Trump, who bragged to stop the war but failed to reach a comprehensive agreement about ending the country’s nuclear program.
President Joe Biden has promised to continue to seek diplomacy but with a lower approach.
