Geneva: A US diplomat that focused on Disarmament said on Thursday that China “saw” developing a navy and aerial autonomical nuclear weapons system, warning these developments can disrupt strategic stability.
Ambassador Robert Wood, US envoys for conferences about disarmament in Geneva, said China had not developed or able to give up on technology.
But his comments suggested that China be interested in what is called “exotic nucles” such as underwater drones of nuclear-powered and nuclear-powered roaming missiles developed by Russia.
“This is something they see,” Wood said.
“If they are to develop …
this type of weapon and air system, it has the potential to change the strategic stability environment in a dynamic way.” The United States does not have a type of system.
“This is not a Chinese place 10 years ago,” Wood added, noted “the above trajectory” which had been carried out by China in the quantity and quality of the weapon system.
“They pursued weapons similar to several nuclear-powered shipping systems that had been chased by Russia.” Russia said the development of the weaponry was intended to fight US defense against ballistic missiles.
Moscow has expressed concern that the defense could ultimately damage the feasibility of its strategic offensive nuclear power, even though Washington stressed that the defense system was designed to protect US homeland from North Korean missiles, not belonging to Russia or China.
Asked about Wood’s comments about China’s interest in developing nuclear-powered roaming missiles and underwater drones, Hans Kristensen, director of the nuclear information project at the Federation of American scientists, said he did not hear any similar US government officials.
But “it is not surprising that China will develop and explore the technology they see other people working on,” Kristensen, experienced analysts about Chinese, Russian and American nuclear weapons, wrote via email.
He noted that developing weapons technology but allowed it on a shelf, rather than spreading it, “is the old trademark of China.” Wood comments are part of a wider encouragement by the United States to attract China into strategic talks.
He canceled the lack of transparency from Beijing and the lack of US-Chinese communication along the line between the US and Russia – and the former Soviet Union – for decades.
“Until China sitting with the United States bilaterally, the risk of devastating weapons will continue to increase – and that is the interest of anyone,” he said.
