The Biden government announced on Wednesday a new set of steps to keep the school open, including increasing access to Covid-19 tests, because the very contagious omicron variants spread rapidly through the United States.
The United States reported 1.35 million new Coronavirus infections on Monday, according to Reuters calculations, the highest total daily for any country in the world.
Omicron is expected to take into account 98.3% of the total new Coronavirus cases circulating in the country on January 8, said CDC on Tuesday.
The White House and Top Health Official on Tuesday defended the Government’s response to the surge in cases and inpatients.
The wave of giant infections has forced Americans to put traveling places and shutter, and have disrupted plans for students and teachers to return to school and for workers back to the office.
After being accused of in the past few weeks focusing on vaccination by sacrificing testing, the Biden government said it would increase the number of Covid-19 tests available for 10 million schools per month.
This administrative estimate will help school more than double the test volume compared to November 2021.
Five-million free fast tests will be distributed every month to help kindergarten school to class 12 (K-12) remains open and administrative will make laboratory capacity available to support Five million monthly PCR tests for schools.
The steps came when several school districts moved to the virtual class again to escape from the omicron wave.
Control & prevention centers will also work with countries requesting additional tests for the school district, and the first shipment will be carried out later this month, the government said.
Other steps including federal institutions ensure federal testing sites can support K-12 operations, connect local school districts with testing providers and offer full replacement to schools that regulate diagnostic programs and testing.
Administration said its efforts have so far produced 96% of schools that can open in-people this month, up from 46% of schools in January 2021.
The White House separately promised to produce 500 million Covid-19 tests.
Available for all Americans in January, and said people must be able to order such tests through the federal website later this month.
