‘US Intel Officers’ were held to deceive a pune woman of Rs 10L

Pune: Cybercrime cells from the city police on Friday arrested a man (25) in the case of cheating after a 28-year-old fashion designer accused him to cheat him from almost Rs 10 lakh.
In his complaint, the woman said she had met a man on the Matrimonial website.
He claimed to be an officer with US intelligence agents, gaining self-confidence and, between April and May this year, cheated him from cash and valuable items with a total of Rs 9.65 lakh.
In fact, the suspect, Amit Chavan, was a water filter technician from Baramati.
The police arrested him at his home on Thursday night and confiscated his car.
His detention was then transferred to the Chathrungi police.
A Masters Court has returned Chavan in police custody until July 12.
Sub-Inspector of Prem Waghmare said Chavan assumed aka Rahul Patil and met the woman at the location of the matrimonial words.
“He claimed to be a US intelligence officer for India and Dubai.
Both of them became friendly and decided to get married,” said Waghmare.
Chavan told the complainant that he had contact in Gujarat, which could help him buy clothes with a low level.

The woman immediately realized that she had been cheated as soon as she knew she was not a US intelligence officer.
“When visiting his bank, he found that Chavan had attracted a large number of using his debit card,” Waghmare said.
