KABUL: Biden Government on Monday said it would evacuate 2,500 Afghan visa seekers along with their families working for America during the war against the Taliban and would accommodate them at the military base in Virginia cleaned.
The administration told Congress that the Afghans would be placed in Fort Lee, the vast army base in the south of Richmond starting next week, reporting Tolo news.
Administration announced earlier this month that it would soon begin to move Afghan visa seekers with the initiative known as “Operation Allies Refuge.” The group to be placed in Fort Lee is only a small part of the number of Afghans who are looking for protection in the United States.
About 20,000 have expressed interest in applying for what is called “Visas Special Immigrants” to move to the US, but only about half of them far enough in the inspection process to be considered for relocation, reporting tolo news.
“In the direction of President Joe Biden, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs works to move interested, fulfill the requirements of Afghans and their families who have been approved through immigrant immigrant programs or SIV programs,” said a spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“As you hear from the president, around 2,500 Afghanistan and family members are now eligible to complete special immigrant processing in the United States and will definitely provide further details because they are available.” The announcement occurred amidst concerns for the safety of Afghanistan who served as a translator and in other supporting roles for American forces and diplomats as the government quickly moved to resolve the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan.
“We will continue to partner with Afghans, to partner with the Afghan government and support the diplomatic processes that receive encouragement during the weekend from the joint declaration issued by the Afghan parties.
Again, the declaration is positive.
