In Friday’s telephone call, US President Joe Biden told Russian President Vladimir Putin that he had to “take action” against the ransomware group operating in his country.
During the conversation for one hour, Biden emphasized that he was “committed to continuing involvement in the wider threat caused by Ransomware.” The White House, in a statement, said, “President Biden underlined the needs of Russia to take action to disrupt the ransomware group operating in Russia and emphasized that he was committed to continuing the involvement posed by Ransomware.” Furthermore, “President Biden stressed that the United States would take the necessary actions to maintain their people and critical infrastructure in the face of this sustainable challenge.” Both leaders also praised the joint work of their respective teams after the US-Russian summit in Geneva, which was held less than a month ago.
“The meeting led to the monthly update of cross-border humanitarian assistance to Syria today at the UN Security Council,” read the statement.
During the media direction on Friday, the White House press secretary Jen PSaki said that Ransomware attacks were recently related to Russia’s Revil Hacking Group which was the main focus of Biden-Putin’s call.
“The US does not have new information that the Russian government directs Ransomware attacks, but Moscow must act,” said PSAKI.
