New Delhi: US President Joe Biden will host the Summit with Indian leaders, Australia and Japan later this year.
Although there is no official confirmation on the date, this will be the first quad meeting to be held directly.
It will also be the first interaction of PM Narendra Modi with the President of Biden since the latter assuming the Oval office.
Kurt Campbell, US coordinator for the Indo-Pacific region, made an announcement on Tuesday at an event organized by the Asian Think-tank community.
Quad meetings will bring the “firm” commitment in the diplomacy and vaccine infrastructure, said Cambell.
It is not clear whether the peak can be combined with bilateral engagement between India and the US.
In his last Summit, Quad decided to distribute one billion Johnson & Johnson dosage among Indo-Pacific countries in 2022.
The project was “on the track” even though there was a surge in Covid-19 case in India, said Campbell.
Quad is seen as a equalizer for China’s expansionists in the Indo-Pacific region.
In March this year, PM Modi, US President Joe Biden, Australian PM Scott Morrison and Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga held a broad discussion during the first quad leader’s virtual summit.
