WASHINGTON: The United States saw the announcement of the Ethiopian ceasefire in Tigray as a potential positive development if it led to changes in the soil, a foreign ministry spokesman said in a statement.
On Monday, the Ethiopian government declared an unconditional ceasefire in the province which was torn apart after reclaiming the regional capital of Mekelle by rebel forces who forced government forces to retreat.
“The announcement of the Ethiopian government yesterday from a unilateral ceasefire in the Tigray area could be a positive step if it resulted in the land to end the conflict, stopping atrocities, and enabling disrespectful humanitarian assistance.
