Colombo: The US has imposed sanctions on two Sri Lankan military officers, including a murder prisoner forgiven by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, for human rights violations, forbid them and their close family members from entering America.
Chandana Hettaarachchi, a naval officer, and Sunil Ratnayake, a former Sri Lanka Army Sergeant, is among several officers from 12 countries approved by the US on US responsibility for “human rights violations”.
Hettaarachchi was involved in “evil rejection of the right to freedom of at least eight Tamil victims, from 2008 to 2009,” said the US State Department on Friday.
Ratnayake was involved in “extraordinary murder of at least eight Tamil villagers in 2000”, said the department.
He was sentenced to death by the court for killing eight Tamil civilians, including four children.
Rajapaksa forgive Ratnayake last year.
