WASHINGTON: The US declared sanctions against Belarusian entities and individuals on alleged human rights abuse and the 23 May Ryanair airport recreation episode.
The Treasury Department said in an announcement on Monday it had advised five things and 16 people, such as Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko’s press secretary and the chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly, the Belarusian Parliament’s upper house, reports Xinhua news agency.

Belarusian journalist Roman Protasevich along with his spouse Sofia Sapega were aboard a commercial flight involving Greece and Lithuania which has been rerouted on May 23 to Minsk soon before it touched Vilnius because of an alleged bomb threat.
No bomb was found, however, both were arrested.
