US to provide a Pfizer vaccine nearly 837k to the Caribbean

San Juan: The US government said on Wednesday that he would provide nearly 837,000 Pfizer vaccines to the Caribbean countries as a region with limited resources struggling with a surge in Covid-19 cases amid cruel anti-vaccine protests.
Bahamas will receive 397,000 doses followed by Trinidad and Tobago with more than 305,000 doses.
Barbados will receive 70,200 doses, while 35,100 is scheduled for St.
Vincent and Grenadines, 17,550 for Antigua and 11,700 for St.
Kitts and Nevis.
“The highest priority of Biden-Harris administration in America is currently managing and ending Covid’s pandemic and contributing to a fair recovery,” said Juan Gonzalez, senior Director of the National Security Council for the West Hemisphere.
Thousands of special syringes needed for the Pfizer vaccine were also donated, with officials noted that these contributions involved “significant legal and logistics complexity.” In addition, USAID, who has provided more than $ 28 million to help 14 Caribbean countries against Covid-19, hopes to announce additional funds soon, according to a White House official.
The Caribbean region has reported more than 1.29 million cases and more than 16,000 deaths, with around 10.7 million people vaccinated so far, according to the Trinidad Caribbean public health agency.
Among the most severe Caribbean countries is Haiti, which on July 14 received its first vaccine shipments since the Pandemic began – 500,000 modern vaccine doses contributed by the UN Covax program for low-income countries.
The country of more than 11 million people has reported the 20,400 confirmed cases and 575 deaths, although experts believe that the numbers are very not reported with a lack of testing.
A spokesman for the National Security Council told The Associated Press that the US “will send the amount of additional dose marking to Haiti immediately,” but further details are not immediately available.
Announcement by the US government came in the midst of anti-vaccine protests recently in Guyana, Antigua and St.
Vincent and Grenadines, the first of his minister was hit in the head with the stone last week and was hospitalized briefly.
Among the most struggling islands with a surge in Covid-19 cases are Bahamas, Curacao, Martinique, Guadeloupe and Trinidad and Tobago.
