Washington: US forces who maintained an evacuation effort at Kabul Airport fired several shots overnight due to crowd-control efforts, but there were no indications of victims or injuries, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said on Wednesday.
Kirby told the news direction that there were no shots dismissed by American forces in Afghanistan or others.
Kirby said the number of US troops at Kabul International Airport reached around 4,500 on Wednesday and several hundred more expected for the next 24 hours.
A Taliban official separately said the Taliban commander and army shot into the air on Wednesday to disperse the crowd at Kabul Airport.
“We have no intention of hurting anyone,” the official told Reuters.
Chaos continued outside the airport, said the official, blamed West troops for “chaotic evacuation plans” from Afghanistan.
Kirby said US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and chairman of his own head of General Mark Milley will warn the media about developments in Afghanistan at 3pm EDT (1900 GMT).
