According to Kyodo News,” White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre on Wednesday (local time) stated that the US hopes Japan’s dedication to prioritize public health as it prepares to host the Tokyo Olympics amid coronavirus pandemic.

The White House comments came following a significant Japanese daily paper known to the cancelation of the Olympics in an editorial, adding to the controversy over Japan’s plan to push forward with the international sporting occasion despite being unable to bring the pandemic in check.

“The government of Japan has emphasized that public health remains a fundamental priority.
And so that’s the commitment they made for us also into other nations in which they are going to have athletes attending the Olympics within only a couple of weeks,” Jean-Pierre, deputy press secretary, told a media conference.
