LOS ANGELES: US Real Estate Scion Robert Durst is Friday convicted for killing his best friend to prevent him from talking to the police about his wife’s loss.
Dürst, a multi-millionaire who is the subject of the HBO Documentary film explosive “The Jinx,” always denied that he shot Susan Berman behind his head in 2000 at his home Beverly Hills.
But the jury in Los Angeles took a total of eight hours to find a 78-year-old boy guilty for the stylish killing of execution.
The prosecutor said he killed the crime writer Berman in December 2000 to prevent him from being questioned by New York police for the disappearance of his wife, Kathleen in the previous two decades.
Berman, the daughter of Mobster Las Vegas, has acted as a spokesman for Durst after he became a suspect in Kathleen’s loss.
Durst, a member wasolated from one of the richest and most powerful New York real estate dynasty, never prosecuted in the case of his wife.
He was arrested in March 2015 in the new Orleans Hotel room in connection with Berman’s murder, hours before the last episode of the HBO documentary “The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst” aired.
In the stunning final of the documentary, Durst sounded muttering to himself, “That’s, you are caught” and “kill them all, of course” – don’t seem to realize that the microphone remains on while he uses a small room.
The series also explored the death of neighboring Durst 2001 in Texas, Morris Black, which was found cut into pieces.
Durst admitted cutting, but claiming the murder defended himself.
He was released.
Durst testified for 14 days in trials that gripped local media.
He repeatedly denied involvement in Berman’s death, but admitted he had written anonymous letter to the police who told them that his body lay in his Beverly Hills house.
Prosecutor John Lewin told the jury there was a “mountain proof” that Dürst had killed the three people with his death he was connected.
He said a friend Durst had testified that the real estate magnet had told him about Berman: “That’s him or me.
I have no choice.” “He has never been responsible for domestic abuse (wife) Kathie.
He has never been responsible for his death.
The last 20 years he went by killing Susan,” Lewin told the jury.
“For the past 20 years, he avoided responsibility for Morris Black.
Dürst is not jinxed.
He is a three-time killer who has managed to escape to date.” Dürst was not in court when the verdict was read because he wasolated after someone’s exposure with Covid-19.
He will be punished on October 18, and face life in prison without the possibility of parole.
