Washington: A major democratic senator said on Thursday that he opposed to change the rules of the Senate to allow the journey of voting rights reform fought by President Joe Biden.
Senator Kirsten Cinema, in a speech on the Senate floor, said he would not support eliminating the rules known as a filibuster, which has the potential to accept Biden’s offer to pass two voting rights bills.
“While I continue to support this bill, I will not support separate actions that worsen the underlying division disease that infects our country,” Senator said from Arizona.
The 100 Senate Rules of the Member require a supermajority of 60 votes to carry bills to the floor and sinema support is needed for Democrats to move forward with voting rights bills.
