WASHINGTON: US Vice President Kamala Harris on Saturday received a Covid-19 vaccine amplifier and urged Americans to follow.
“I got a booster shot, and I wanted to encourage everyone to do the same thing when you qualified,” Harris said after receiving the third dose of a modern vaccine in the White House.
“What we said from the start: safe and free,” he said.
Harris said that more than 90 percent of Americans in the intensive care unit or who had died because Covid was not vaccinated.
“So let’s vaccinate and we will pass through a pandemic,” he said.
Many Americans are still opposing vaccinations, with only 58 percent of the population that are fully immunized.
The United States has recorded more than 745,000 deaths from Covid-19.
US health authorities have approved Booster Shots of the Moderna, Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson.
Booster must be given six months after the second dose for people aged 65 or more, and to people aged 18-64 at high risk of Covid-19 or frequent exposure to viruses because of their work.
Harris aged fifty-seven years had received two first injections in December 2020 and January 2021, according to the White House.
He is considered at risk of contracting Covid because of his official duty.
US President Joe Biden, 78, received a third dose of vaccine in September.
