New Delhi: The US Army on Monday carried out air strikes against the Taliban in Lashkargah, the capital of Helmand Province in Afghanistan, killing around 40 Taliban fighters, said Source.
Although the Afghan government did not confirm civilians being hit, sources in the provincial capital said that eight family members, including children, were killed in the attack.
Sources added that fighters had attacked a central prison in the city of Lashkargah which was pushed back by strikes.
US troops have recently intensified air strikes in the Taliban to support the defense and national security forces Afghanistan (AndSF), said media reports.
Previously, US Central Command Commander General McKenzie said that the US Army would carry out air strikes to support the Andsf in the war against the Taliban even after a full withdrawal of troops, but admitted that the strike would be above the horizon.
The Taliban has attacked the city of Lashkargah almost 10 days ago and recently dropped two police districts in the city and then closer to the central prison.
The Afghan government recently sent reinforcements to the city which caused heavy conflicts between the side of the fight, leaving hundreds of families moved.
