Panaji: Impower the previous government because he ignored his call to adopt the use of ethanol as commercial fuel, the minister of trade unions, transportation and highway Nitin Gadkari on Monday said that ethanol was not only cheaper, but also cheaper for the environment.
The Union Minister also said that the inclusion of fuel under GST will help reduce retail costs but the decision must be taken by the GST Board.
Overcoming Cave Industrialists, Gadkari said that a quick increase in ethanol production and adoption could help India completely stopped the import of crude oil after five years.
“From 2004 I was the main advocate, constantly arguing for ethanol.
But when every thought out-of-box was there, it was difficult and at that time people took more time to support it.
Now, people support ethanol,” said Gadkari at a meeting to decipher the National Masterplan Gati Shakti.
He responded to the worries submitted by the industry about high fuel prices and efforts taken to reduce it.
Gadkari said that since 70-80% of state fuel requirements depend on import, the center can do a little to reduce prices.
He said that the center had made a decision to promote a flex machine that could run on ethanol and gasoline.
He said that Bajaj Auto, TV and Toyota had agreed to produce vehicles with machines that could run on one of two fuel.
“The cost of gasoline is very high compared to ethanol.
It’s time for the state to accept new technology because it is less polluted than even electricity because we make electricity from coal.”
