WASHINGTON: The US military, under the direction of President Joe Biden, carried out a week’s air strike against what he said “the facilities used by the Iranian-supported militia group” near the border between Iraq and Syria.
The Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby said the militia used the facility to launch an unmanned air vehicle against US forces in Iraq.
Kirby said the US military targets three operational and weapons storage facilities – two in Syria and one in Iraq.
He described air strikes as “defensive,” said they were launched in response to “a series of ongoing attacks by Iranian-supported groups targeting US interest in Iraq.” “The United States takes the necessary actions, accordingly, and is intentionally designed to limit the risk of escalation – but also to send clear and not ambiguous prevention messages,” said Kirby.
