KANPUR: A teenage girl allegedly shot the husband of a village head with the help of her friend in Kannauj.
She has accused him of stalking and asking her for sexual favours for the past two years.
The incident came to light on Tuesday when the girl, after her arrest, confessed to killing Sumer (name changed), the husband of the village head.
Sumer (50) was allegedly shot dead on the night of June 20 at the house of the girl.
Sumer’s sons in an FIR accused the girl’s friend of killing their father.
The girl alleged that Sumer had been stalking and asking her for sexual favours for the past two years.
“Sumer used to stalk me and ask for sexual favours.
On one occasion, he even tried to outrage my modesty.
When I resisted, he started harassing me and my friend.
He had even molested my sister,” she added.
Due to fear of social stigma, she never disclosed about her harassment to anyone and also feared that her family members would be harmed by Sumer as he was had criminal background, she told police, adding, “He was a murder accused and his terror reigns supreme in the area.” Fed up, the girl and her friend decided to kill him.
She had told her other siblings too that she had decided to kill Sumer.
On June 20, the girl’s mother made a phone call to Sumer and on the pretext of sorting out the issue with her daughter, invited him to her place.
“When Sumer was sitting and talking to her mother, the girl shot him with a countrymade pistol and escaped to Farrukhabad with her friend,” said police.
“Police on Tuesday managed to arrest her and her friend from Farrukhabad.
The country-made pistol which the girl had used to execute the killing was provided by her friend.
We recovered the firearm from the girl’s house,” police said.
“Police have arrested the girl and booked her under section 302.
Her friend and his aide have also been arrested for conspiracy,” said SSP Kannauj Prashant Verma.
