New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday canceled Kanwar Yatra in the Covid-19 state view.
“The annual Yatra Kanwar has been canceled at Uttar Pradesh.
Yatra has been canceled by Kanwar Sanghs about appealing to the government,” said Head of Secretary of Navneet State Secretary Sehgal.
The decision came a day after the Supreme Court asked the government to ban even the symbolic of Kanwar Yatra scheduled to start from July 25 in the state.
The Government of Uttar Pradesh has maintained that “if” Yatra occurs, it will occur in accordance with the Covid-19 protocol and “with the approval of the Kanwar Association”.
The Supreme Court has said that the movement of such worshipers could not be permitted during the third wave of Covid-19 was soaring and asked the Uttar Pradesh government to reconsider his decision and did not allow Yatra even symbolically.
All sentiments, including religion, are subject to the right to life, said the Supreme Court on Friday and asked the Uttar Pradesh government to be informed on July 19 whether he would reconsider his decision to hold the “symbolic” of Kanwar Yatra.
The Government of Uttarakhand has canceled Yatra.
Last year, the upper government and Uttarakhand had made a joint decision to cancel Yatra’s Kanwar but this year, citing the level of low Covid infection in the state, up the government had begun to make arrangements for Yatra.
However, facing a flee for Kumbh Mela held during the second wave and the court directed it to cancel the Char Dham Yatra, Uttarakhand decided to keep Kanwar Yatra under the suspension.
