Pithoragarh: Five people, including three children, were killed and the other two were lost after three houses fainted in a village following heavy rain in the Dharchula district sub-division in Uttarakhand, an official said on Monday.
The incident occurred in the village of Jumma on Sunday night, Pithoragarh District Judge Ashish Chauhan, who rushed to a place to oversee the operation of help and rescue, said.
“Five bodies, including three children, have recovered, while searching for two more is still missing,” said the commander of SSB Singh.
The deceased has been identified as Sanjana (15), Renu (11), Shivani (9) – All daughters Joga Singh from Jumma Village – and Sunita Devi and Parwati Devi.
Jayamati Devi and Lal Singh who were injured had been treated at Dharchula PhC, officials said.
The search team used the sniffer dog to track Chander Singh and Hajari Devi, who was still lost, said the disaster management officer Bhupendra Singh Mahar.
A helipad has been built in an affected area, the control room arranged there and the medical team was sent to the village to treat injured, said the district judge.
Rescue operations will take place until all the missing people are found and the affected people are transferred to a safe place, he said.
“The victim can be higher because the affected village is on the top of the hill,” Chauhan said.
“We have made air surveys in the village by helicopters and sends Tim SDRF and NDRF, along with the police and income teams, to the village to carry out aid and rescue operations on the war footing,” the district judge said.
The Chairman of the Minister of Pushkar Singh Dhami spoke to Chaila and Commissioner Kumaon Sushilk Kumar to assess the extent to which damage caused by heavy rain in Jumma Village.
He asked officials to move people who were affected to a safe location immediately and made adequate food and drug arrangements for them.
He also asked Commissioner Kumaon to ensure that the streets, including national highways blocked by debris of landslides in the region had to be cleaned earlier.
Dhami wants to visit the place itself, but can’t do it because of bad weather.
However, he said he would go there so open weather.
