Dehradun: In just five days, almost 9,000 Kanwarias tried to enter Uttarakhand even though the ban on Kanwar Yatra had been sent back to the train and bus by the authorities.
At least 22 of them have been ordered under the disaster management law, while 14 pilgrims have been detained and quarantined in local ashrams, according to state police.
Last week, in an effort to block worshipers, the state has placed gangajal tankers on its borders.
The train station is conducting strict passenger checks and 1,000 police personnel have been deployed at various border points between countries.
However, the steps have not fully stopped the Kanwarias movement.
NILESH Bharne, Deputy Inspector General (Excavation) of the Uttarakhand Police, “We sent back 1,221 vehicles, including two wheels, which brought Kanwarias.
A total of 8,656 Kanwarias had turned away from Haridwar’s border in the last five days.” On Wednesday, the High Court has expressed concern For Kanwaria’s report who tried to sneak into Haridwar and asked the state government why there was no sentence taken under the action of disaster management.
The court has conducted observations while hearing a group of public interest litigation related to the handling of the country’s pandemic and said that “nothing can be allowed to violate the appropriate behavior of Covid and endanger the lives of the locals”.
