CALANGUTE: Covid Vaccination Center in Calangute will stop functioning from Monday (November 1) after the end of the vaccination campaign.
The center was closed because the number of people who came to take their shots had been significantly reduced, the Candolim Primary Health Center (PHC) collected from Roshan Nazareth to Ti.
“Most of the locals have taken their second shots.
The people who came now most are tourists and hotel workers who took their first shot elsewhere,” he said.
Those who want to be vaccinated now must visit the vaccination center in Candolim at Nandan Kudchadkar’s residence which will continue to function for more time, he said.
“Even we will immediately close because the owner wants to restart his business,” said Nazareth.
After that it is closed, vaccination can be done in Candolim PHON itself or in Pancrayat or Church hall.
During the peak of the pandemic there were nine vaccination centers under Candolim PHC in Calangute, Candolim, Arpora, Saligao, Sangolda, Guirim, Nerul and Reis Magos.
Most of them have been closed after the number of people decreases.
Now only Candolim and the Saligao PHC center are open.
“It will also reduce the burden on our staff and they can now restart other campaigns for diabetes, etc.,” he added.
However, Nazaret said they had a “mega vaccination” drive one day in a different place whenever needed.
One of these drives was held on Sundays, when 1,166 people were vaccinated in all centers.
“If we don’t now increase around 100-200 people every day,” he said.
Drive mega vaccination was previously done about a month ago.
