Vaccine testing, research facilities will be arranged at RGCB

Thiruvananthapuram: testing vaccines and research facilities for a number of diseases, including cancer and infectious diseases, will be established on the second campus of the Biotechnology Center of Rajiv Gandhi (RGCB), said Minister of State Science and Technology Singh.
While overcoming the meeting of the RGCB annual body held in New Delhi, he said the center would also have BSL-3 facilities (biosafety level) to handle air viruses, including those who gave birth to covid pandemics.
This facility will be the first of its kind in South India.
The second campus of RGCB, to be named “Shri Guruji Madhav Madhav Golwalk National Center National Center for complex diseases in cancer and viral infections,” It is expected to be ready for the dedication to the nation in the next few months.
The campus will appear in Akkulam in the city.
Jitendra Singh, who is also the President of the RGCB community, said the Biotechnology Center Rajiv Gandhi will be developed as a hub for research and testing several vaccines such as cancer vaccines and for infectious diseases, including Covid-19.
This will bring great recognition for RGCB in the field of research and development of specific vaccines, he said.
The Minister praised the RGCB model supporting innovative research and biotechnology incubation facilities.
Director of RGCB Professor Chandrabhas Narayana explained that new facilities would be made on the new campus.
He said the center would have advanced technology, therapy, clinical trials for cancer vaccines and immune therapy.
It will also have facilities for therapy such as replacement of stem cells, gene therapy, molecular tumors, targeting and imaging.
Those who attended the meeting included, Dr Rajesh S Goshale, Secretary, Biotechnology Department, Indian Government, Vishvajit Sahay, Secretary of Secretary and Finance, DBT, Sunil Kumar, Together Secretary, DBT, Dr.
Sundeep Sarin, Scientific Coordinator for RGCB on DBT and Dr.
Shekhar C Mande, Secretary, Scientific and Industrial Research Department (DSIR) and Director General, Scientific and Industrial Research Council (CSIR).
