Greater Noida: Organisers of an inoculation camp at a housing society in Greater Noida have been booked after it came to light that Covid vaccines meant to be administered through a primary health centre (PHC) at Aligarh’s Naurangabad were given to 187 residents of the condominium, Jaypee Greens.
Two vaccination camps were held inside the housing complex last month and Covaxin doses were administered, sources said.
Government officials visited the society on Sunday and a police complaint was lodged.
Later, an FIR was registered at Beta 2 police station.
The vaccination camps were held on May 21 and 27 and some residents who took the jabs got certificates that mention a PHC in Naurangabad.
While a paid vaccination drive was organised on May 21, doses were administered for free on May 27, sources said.
According to officials, no information about the camps was given to the chief medical officer’s office or to officials in the administration.
Additional chief medical officer (ACMO) of Gautam Budh Nagar Dr Neeraj Tyagi is responsible for issuing permissions for such vaccination camps in residential societies.
But no permission was sought from him either, officials said.
Jaypee Greens officials and resident body members could not be contacted for a response.
The district administration set up an inquiry committee after reports of the vaccination camps emerged.
A team of officials, including the chief medical officer (CMO), subdivisional magistrate Prasoon Dwivedi and ACP-1 (Greater Noida) went to the society to inquire about the vaccination camps.
According to them, none of the officials and organisers cooperated with them.
CMO Dr Deepak Ohri told TOI: “No information was given to us.
We got to know about the vaccination camps from news reports.
We learnt that 187 people were vaccinated but only three-four residents showed us their certificates.
One resident was ready to talk to us.
But later, he refused to speak.
Those who got vaccinated at the camp had produced their Aadhaar cards,” he said.
Officials said the Covaxin vials used at the camps had been destroyed or thrown away.
Ohri confirmed that according to the batch number of the vaccineS, the doses had been allotted to the PHC at Naurangabad.
The stock was meant for residents above 45 years of age.
How the doses kept for a government centre reached a Greater Noida society, more than 100 km away, is still unclear.
“That the vaccine meant for a government PHC could reach Greater Noida indicates irregularities either at the centre or at the distribution point.
As a result, several people in Greater Noida jumped the queue and got vaccines that were actually meant to be given to people in Naurangabad,” a senior official told TOI.
Additional DCP (Greater Noida) Vishal Pandey said after the inquiry committee submitted its findings to the district magistrate, a police complaint was lodged.
Later, an FIR was registered against the organisers of the vaccination camps at Beta 2 police station.
Among those named are the president of Jaypee Greens residents welfare association (RWA) Shubh Gautam and residents Anil Gupta, Ajay Kumar and Beena Singh Subhi.
They have been booked under IPC sections 420 (cheating), 269 and 270 (negligent act likely to spread the infection) and 188 (disobedience of order promulgated by public servant) and Section 3 of the Epidemic Diseases Act.
