Vadodara: Next time you visit the forest in Jambughoda and find a free green space from ‘irresponsible waste’ man-made, don’t be surprised.
Concerned about plastic waste destroying the forest and damaging the eco-system, a group of young people from the city have started the ‘Mission Clean Forest’ campaign in the state.
“We started our campaign from Jambughoda forest because it was one of the most popular places for tourists and trekkers.
A week ago, we collected around 550 kilograms of plastic and thermocol waste in a day from the asylum Jambughoda.
We have not covered a large area,” said Siddharth Amin , who runs life with the Foundation wildlife.
“It is very disturbing to seeing even the interior of forest areas scattered with non-biodegradable waste.
People who have often visited this forest both for religious purposes or for trekking, disposing of waste with carelessly.
Most of the waste is covered by bushes and still invisible.
Plastic waste And the thermocol damaged the eco-system, “Amin said, added that his team continued to visit Jambughoda forests to help tribes.
“We donate clothes, crayons, lunch boxes, and learning materials every year.
Once we get their trust, we educate them about the importance of wildlife and urge them not to kill reptiles or wild animals.
During our visit, we saw garbage in the forest And then decided to act.
The Department of Forest also gave us all support, “Amin told Toi.
At present, a group of around 75 young people including students from Parul University, Canine Group members, Rotary Club of Baroda Greens and Shri Dhwaramai Charity Trust have joined the Mission Clean Forest campaign.
“The plastic waste we collected was handed over to ‘Kachre SE Azadi’, a NGO that sent it to be recycled.
Our next target is to clean the Ratanmahal forest from plastic waste and gradually we will take this campaign into a different forest in Gujarat,” said Amin .
