In about a year, visitors from one of the main draws of the city can enjoy various events including the ‘Sound and Light Show’ on the iconic Chariot 106-ft.
Following the nod of the state government, the Department of Public Works (PWD) is preparing a plan that will include a mini-amphitheater and museum.
At night it will be enlivened by lightweight sounds and performances, ‘with various polyvalluvar portrait colors and the famous (1,330 temple) against the background of the music.
Mini-amphitheater, which is proposed to be built more than 1,200sqft near the main entrance at the High Road Kodambakkam, will focus on activities that are mostly related to the Tamil culture and literature.
A park will be laid diagonally opposite this, while the museum-cum-library will appear near the existing auditorium.
The fountain behind the train will be converted into musical fountains.
“The Tiruvalluvar statue will be placed inside the museum that will have various collections related to the ‘curlies’ and their writers.
Our vision is to make it an interesting goal for children,” said a PWD official.
The place will be borne by Wi-Fi and exclusive applications are being developed for that place.
“This will have all the details and features of the monument.
Auditorium that can accommodate around 3,500 people at the same time have a centralized air conditioner for public events,” officially added.
The resurrection plan came amid criticism from a variety of poor maintenance over the past decade which led to the damaged floor, lane and leakage.
On Tuesday, the Minister of Information and Publicity M P Saminathan conducted a review with officials concerned and discussed plans for restoration.
According to official sources, the damaged surface will give way for the new floor.
“We will provide financial estimates for proposals in a few weeks to the government.
After approval is given, the work will be completed within 7-9 months,” said PWD official.
The monument, which was conceived by the late former M minister, was inaugurated in April 1976 at that time President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed.
These features include decorative arches and manimandapam curry, where all the verses have been carved.
