Varasgaon is more than 98% full; Debit starts from Panset

Pune: The stock of water in Varasgaon, the largest among the four reservoirs in the Irrigation Circle of Khadakwasla, reached 98% of its capacity on Monday.
The state irrigation department official said that they would begin the release of water from the dam as the reservoir was filled, which was likely in the next few days.
The department on Monday continued the release of water from Panghet to accommodate rainwater flowing into the reservoir after a good rain spell in the water catchment area.
Water was released at the level of 902 Cusec and flowed to Khadakwasla, where the shares were reduced to 74% to make room for the entry flow from Panghet.
“We monitor the water level in all reservoirs.
There has been a stable increase at the level.
The catch accepts a good rain spell in the past few days.
Varasgaon shares inched towards full capacity.
The water released will go to Khadakwasla.
However, we will still release water From the dam.
The stock of water in Khadakwasla has been lowered to avoid water disposal suddenly into Mutha, which can cause flooding in the lowlands, “an official said.
Stock in Varasgaon reached 12.63 thousand million cubic feet (TMC) on Monday night, while collective stock in the four reservoirs reached 28 TMC (96%).
The irrigation department has released more than 5 TMC water from Khadakwasla to Mutha during heavy rain spells in July.
More water discharge is expected as water storage approaches maximum capacity.
