MADURAI: Tamil Maanila Congress President G K Vasan on Monday condemned the attack on Tamil Nadu fishermen by the Sri Lanka Navy.
In a statement, the former Minister of Persat for delivery stated that the attack took place on Saturday when fishing fishermen near Katchatheevu.
Fishermen from Rameswaram went for fishing at 556 motorized boats on Saturday.
Sri Lankan Navy pelted them with stones.
The fishermen hid on the ship to escape the attack.
Six fishermen were injured and escaped from death when the Sri Lankan navy crashed into their ship and damaged it.
Vasan said more than 60 ships were damaged in the attack by Lanka Navy.
He alleged that the fishing net of 25 damaged ships and fishermen suffered losses on the tone of several lakh rupees.
According to him, the attack on fishermen affects the livelihoods of coastal residents when they return to the beach without catching fish and fear of fishing.
He said that the union government must get a guarantee from Sri Lanka that the country’s naval power would not attack Indian fishermen.
