Vatican Needs Italy to Discontinue anti-homophobia Legislation: Report

ROME: The Vatican has produced an”unprecedented” formal diplomatic apology to your draft Italian legislation against homophobia, a news report said Tuesday.
The so-called Zan legislation, that is now being debated within Italy’s parliament, attempts to punish the actions of discrimination and incitement to violence against gay, transgender, bisexual, and handicapped individuals.
According to the Corriere Della Sera newspaper, the Vatican contended in an Official note the charge violates the Concordat, the bilateral treaty between Italy and the Holy See.
“It’s an unprecedented action in the history of relationships between both nations or , there are not any people precedents,” the day.
Pope Francis’ de facto foreign minister, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, given a letter, or”note verbale”, into the Italian embassy to the Holy See on June 17, ” the newspaper said.
The letter implied that the Zan legislation could breach the Concordat by curtailing Catholic liberty of expression and belief.
That is because Catholic colleges wouldn’t be exempted from a duty to participate in a newly-created federal day from homophobia, lesbophobia, and transphobia.
The letter expressed concern Catholics could at the upcoming face legal actions for expressing remarks against LGBTI rights, Corriere stated.
Corriere noted that if the Holy See’d”before” taken this measure from a draft Italian legislation, the Concordat provides it the right to do so.
Neither the Vatican nor the foreign ministry reacted to requests for comment on the Corriere report, also released four times prior to Rome’s 2021 Gay Pride parade.
The Zan legislation has been passed from the lower house of parliament in November, however its final acceptance is far from ensured as it faces stiff resistance from right-wing parties from the Senate.
