Mumbai: The city is placed among the two bottom districts in Maharashtra when it comes to providing Covid vaccines up to 15-17 years.
Mumbai barely included 27.6% of adolescents who qualified, just above Soapur (26.6%) and Chandrapur (24.4%), the latest data said.
The country has covered 46% of the estimated population of 60.6 lakh teenagers with the first dose since the start of the drive on January 3 3.
Only 14 districts below the country average, including Mumbai.
This is a great departure of performance during adult vaccination, when Mumbai keeps advancing with leaps and coverage boundaries and the dosage given.
At present, Bhandara and Sangli lead with 73% and 67% coverage.
In the absolute number of doses given too, several districts are in front of Mumbai.
While the city has provided 1.9 doses of lakh, neighbors Thane has provided 2.4 lakh doses and a dose of pune 2.7 lakh.
A senior civilian official said that unlike other districts, Drive Mumbai began nine vaccination centers.
“We have now extended it to all community centers and ask local leaders to motivate children,” the official said.
While Thane managed to hold a drive in an educational institution, Bhandara used a new approach.
District Health Officers told the Toi that they tapped the centers that carry out routine immunization for children up to 5 years.
“They are located in the community and most are accessible.
These centers usually work on Tuesday and Friday, so we also carry out covid vaccinations in these places,” he said.
There are at least 23-25 vaccination centers under each primary health center.
In addition, district health officials were also tied with the Ministry of Education to mobilize children and take them to the nearest primary health center.
Thane collector Rajesh Narvestar said they did not want to wait for children to come to vaccination centers, so they brought back to their school and college.
“In rural areas, he has worked well.
Children are more comfortable vaccinated in their own schools,” he said, adding that they planned to finish the drive for teenagers at the end of January.
Meet the requirements aged 15-17 years number 6.1 lakh in Mumbai, and it seems the drive will spill until February.
Dr.
Bakul Parekh, a member of the pediatric task force, said people were confused by mixed messages about teen vaccination.
“Vaccination gives immunity and long-lasting teenagers who are obese, suffering from diabetes or smoke will definitely take vaccines,” he said.
