Chennai: The Ministry of Health, which is expected to see dry Monday, vaccination 1.37lakh people in TN.
Officials in Wing immunization said that for the past few weeks the public health nurses managed to save up to 1.4 lakh doses of vaccines using the last drop in the bottle.
At 8 am, officials said they hoped no more than 40,000 doses.
Their calculations are based on basic mathematics – from the dose of 1.5 crore allocated, the state has used 1.5 crore.
But during the day, when vaccination crosses 50,000 marks, officials ask district authorities for stock details.
Each 5ml vaccine vaccine has 10 doses.
Nurses can now take 11 to 12 doses of each bottle.
“Manufacturers increase at least two additional doses in bottles.
When drawing vaccines, some may be wasted in vain.
Nurses now make sure they take the correct dose of 0.5 ml in the syringe.
With this they not only ensure zero waste but it too,” said director with immunization dr k vinay kumar.
“With this, we can redeem almost 4 doses of lakh which wasted until April,” he said.
However, the state may not have a vaccination camp until fresh stock arrives.
“At the end of the day most of the districts do not have the remaining vaccines.
The schedule for the next shipment is July 11,” he said.
