Gurgaon/Noida: Residents of several housing societies across NCR cities are helping domestic staff, drivers and car cleaners employed in their complexes with the registration process on Co-WIN and booking slots for them if needed.
Some are also organising awareness drives to address their apprehensions associated with the vaccination process.
In some Gurgaon and Noida societies, residents are also pitching in to pay for the doses.
On June 4, two vaccination camps were organised at Gaur Saundaryam and Hawelia Valencia Homes in Noida Extension where a total of 250 people were inoculated.
While about 25 domestic staff and guards got the jabs at Gaur Saundaryam, 10 were vaccinated at Hawelia Valencia Homes.
At Gaur Saundaryam, a task force had been formed to help Covid patients and their attendants in the complex and the members said around 50 staff members have registered on Co-WIN.
BK Bansal, a member of the task force, said 50-60 staffers have been vaccinated for free.
“Their employers and other residents are paying for the vaccines.
Each dose of Covishield costs Rs 850,” he added.
But Bansal said convincing the staffers to take the vaccine is a difficult task.
“We spoke to many of them.
Some told us they thought the vaccine could be harmful.
Later, we informed them that they will not be allowed entry if they don’t take the shots,” Bansal said.
Rahul Garg, vice president, Noida Extension Flat Owners Welfare Association (Nefowa), said: “Our domestic staff was reluctant.
She thought she would fall ill after taking the jab.
The security guards said they were worried about taking leave to get the shot.
But we spoke to them about it.” In Gurgaon too, several awareness drives are being organised by residents.
Kapil Gupta, residents welfare association (RWA) president, The Escape, Sector 50, said: “A substantial number of people, including security guards, gardeners and electricians, have already been vaccinated.
We are trying to inoculate everyone here by July.” On June 3, an awareness camp was organised in the housing complex.
“We addressed the women especially because they have several concerns with regards to pregnancy, menstruation and lactation,” said Dr Shalini Mullick, a member of The Escape Covid relief group.
Ravi Sharma, RWA general secretary, Winter Hills, said they are helping the staff members with the registration process.
Mamta Yadav, RWA president, Seven Lamps, said: “The government should organise special camps for them or allot dedicated time slots at the local healthcare centre so that they can get the jabs without much hassle.”
