Veggie’s price shoots in Kolkata before Durga Puja

Kolkata: Extensive damage causes plants to stand because of inundation of fields after the recent floods and a successive surge in the level of diesel once again put the price of vegetables on the increase, pushing the kitchen budget days before Durga Puja.
The impact of deep depression in Bay of Bengal and intense rain in a short span of time has left agricultural land throughout the district under water.
The gap between demand and supply has increased and prices cannot go down during the celebration period, say related to trading vegetables in Kolkata.
TimesviewAll efforts must be done to maintain price deviations (from normal) as low as possible and as far as possible.
The agent must also ensure that the mid-supply chain is not recorded at the expense of farmers and buyers.
Prices of vegetables in the retail market throughout the city have more than doubled in a week.
Parwal (pointed pumpkin), for example, up to RS70 A Kg, which hovered around RS30 / kg a week ago.
Tomatoes are sold at RS25-30 / kg and are now priced at RS50.
The price of brinjal (eggplant) is RS35-40 and is now sold at RS70-80 A Kg.
Parwal, pumpkin bottles, long beans, cucumbers and Okra are very susceptible to stagnant water and rot faster than other vegetables, if they are under water for more than 2-3 days.
“The sharp decline in the supply of vegetables from Hooghly, Howrah, Midnapore, where Air Barrage flooded agricultural fields, had left poor farmers.
The impact of their losses was felt by the city market,” Kamal Dey, the association of Bengal President of Farmers and Vendors.
In fact, rainwater has not receded from several agricultural land in Bashirhat, Bongaon, canning, recently as a river, which should drain water still overflowing.
“Water flows back to the fields even if they are pumped into the canal.
That is why plant damage is far worse than what we experienced after Yaas,” said the Apostle Miyan, a farmer and a member of the action forum with farmers and vendors at the barasat.
“Moreover, the transportation costs have increased again, with diesel prices edged up to a century.
Since September 24, the price of diesel rises by RS2 per liter.
Now, there is an increase in RS100 per ton of vegetables from the force market to wholesalers and from the wholesale market to the retail market , “said Gobindo Naskar, a wholesaler in the Jinjira Wholesale market (Base Bridge).
“Increased price of vegetables is not pleasant for us before the festival.
The price of all edible commodities in the entire category has increased.
The price of LPG also has a surprising increase.
The price of vegetables fluctuating burns a larger hole in the bag,” said Ashwini Kumar, an engineer by train.
