Mumbai: Registration of vehicles in Maharashtra for July this year is higher than for this month in four years earlier.
The August figure was also higher than in the past, except 2018, showing statistics from the Department of Transportation.
Experts say this can be an indicator of economic recovery and also increase the use of private vehicles during Covid.
“Increased vehicle registration shows a boost for the car sector in Maharashtra and also the banking sector by choosing a vehicle loan,” said Minister of State (Transport) Satej Patil.
“Also, during the first Covid year (2020), people face difficulties in traveling and so many post-lockdowns buy bikes or cars.
Some find travel in private vehicles such as bicycles or scooters as the best form of social distance,” Minister said.
Data shows that in July 2021, there are 2,06,196 vehicle registration collectively at 50 RTOS in Maharashtra.
It is 105% more cars, bicycles and other vehicle registration compared to July 2020.
In addition, registration July 2021 is 25% more than in July 2019 (pre-covid time).
That number was 5% and 9% more than in 2018 and 2017, an official said.
The number of vehicles registered in August this year in this country is 47%, 14% and 5% more than last month, 2019 and 2017.
in Mumbai, this July vehicle registration is 104% and 14% higher than the month the same in 2020 and 2019, respectively.
But for August, 2021 registration 12% less than 2019.
Nearly 55% of total registration is two-wheeled vehicles.
Experts say motorbikes and scooters are fast mobility sources, ensure faster dispersal in traffic jams.
