Bhubaneswar: After Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) shifted the Vegetable Unit-1 market to the adjacent school park to reduce congestion in the midst of increasing Covid-19 cases, many vegetable vendors complained that new places were too small to accommodate everything.
They said there were around 1400 vendors who did business in the UNIT-1 market, one of the largest wholesale and retail markets in the state.
But BMC has built around 1,000 warehouses, and as a result a lot of vendors who did not get the warehouse plan to return to their village.
“It is impossible for those who do not get a warehouse to do business outside the playground.
Therefore, many of them pack their bags and think of returning to their village.
Without business they cannot survive in the city,” said Brundaban Lenka, Vendor Vegetables from the Tigiria area in the Cuttack district.
