Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has moved vendors at eight major vegetable markets in the city to reduce crowding given the surge in the Covid-19 case daily.
Kaseload active city has increased to around 9,000.
BMC has begun to reduce the number of vendors in certain markets and give them space in several other places.
In the southeast zone, the unit-1 market (space) has been kept away from recent boundaries after complaints violating Covid guidelines.
Vegetable vendors there are asked to shift to the runway for their daily business.
Vendors in Badagada Market, Indradhanu, Unit-IV and VSS Nagar have also shifted to the nearest road or field.
The Indradhanu market vegetable vendor has shifted to Durga Puja Ground, Nayapalli, while the Vendor Unit-IV sat along the road in front of the Bhawan Red Cross.
“The vendors have been moved given the fact that the market is crowded and social distance is not maintained.
Because the virus spreads rapidly now, moving vendors will mean customers who visit the market will get space to walk and shop easily and without reducing safety norms against Covid -19, “said Deputy Commissioner BMC (responsible for Covid) Kamaljit Das.
Since the curfew starting at 9pm, the market must be closed before the specified time.
If the market remains crowded, the vendor cannot close the time.
In the first wave and both pandemic, the vendor has been moved before the case surge to check the spread of further viruses.
