New Delhi: Venkaiiah Naidu vice president on Sunday urged all stakeholders, including the private sector, to increase government efforts in the field of adult skills education and training.
Emphasizing the need to make every literate adult, he highlights the need to focus on digital literacy and finance among people.
Overcoming the meeting after presenting a prestigious Nehru and Tagore literacy award here, the vice president said it was disappointing that despite making major progress in such fields and digitization, India still has the largest number of illiterate people in the world.
Calling urgent steps to overcome this challenge, he wanted to drive literacy to the people’s movement, the official statement from the Deputy President of the Secretariat said.

Indian adult education associations bestow this award to individuals and institutions that have made important contributions to the fields of national education and development.
Praising the recipient of the reward for their important contribution to the educational causes of adults, the vice president asked everyone to decide to make India a country that was fully literate and educated.
“Literacy and education freed people.

Noting that a high level of literacy is directly related to the economic progress of a country and the quality of life of its citizens, Naidu said literacy was even more important in developing countries such as India.
