New Delhi: Vice President and Chair of Rajya Sabha M Venkaiiah Naidu completed four years in the office on Wednesday.
To mark this opportunity, the Deputy President Secretariat released a flip book which presents an overview of his engagement over the past year, a official statement said.
E-books, released in various languages, noted that as Chair of Rajya Sabha, Naidu has been constantly trying to strengthen parliamentary democracy in this country.
He, along with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, made a special setting for the functioning of the parliament in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic.
As a result, Rajya Sabha’s productivity rose to 95.82 percent during 2020-21 (until the budget session 2021) from 48.17 percent during 2017-18, said the statement.
During 2020-21, 44 bills were passed by Rajya Sabha, the highest in the last four years and eight Rajya committees Sabha submitted 74 reports, once again the highest in the past four years, he said.
Vice President attended 133 events – both virtual and physical – throughout the country covering 10 states and two union territory.
Twenty-two of them are initial events, he said.
Over the past year, Naidu delivered 53 lectures, released 23 books, visited more than 21 institutions, discussing seven convocessions, attending four award ceremonies and three project foundations, the statement said.
The year has passed a difficult person with Covid pandemic disrupting life and livelihoods throughout the world.
Reflecting this health crisis, the vice president spreads the message of hope and resilience by writing Facebook posts and articles convincing residents in the midst of an unprecedented health crisis, he said.
He praised the contribution of all the Covid frontline soldiers in various articles and posts on various social media platforms and constantly begged the public to take part in the safety protocol, he said.
Naidu was the first to make himself vaccinated and also urged people to spill vaccine doubts, said the statement.
During his visit to Bharat Biotech facilities in Hyderabad, he praised the efforts of scientists to develop the original Covid vaccine, he said.
Given the stories of courage and confidence, the vice president wrote a series of Facebook posts on 26 female freedom fighter unsung and less-known stories of 10 fighter freedom that was imprisoned in cellular prisons in Andaman, said the statement.
In April this year, he also discussed the closing ceremony of the 25-day anniversary of Dandi Hatiyatra which was held as part of ‘Azaadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ in Dandi considering the latent collective power in the country, he said.
“The vice president is known as a supporter who promotes Indian language.
Over the past year, he used each platform to raise this important topic,” said the statement.
“On the International Mother Language Day, he tweeted in 22 Indians, writing articles on 24 Vernacular newspapers about the importance of maternal and also sending letters to all members of parliament in their mother tongue which urged them to work for their promotion and preservation,” he said.
In new initiatives, vice president sent greetings to all members of the parliament in their mother tongue in the traditional new year of India.
When Aicte decided to offer a professional course in Indian, he praised this decision and wrote articles in 33 vernacular newspapers in 24 Indians, highlighting the need for professional courses in Indian.
Emphasizing the need to reconnect the default strength of India, the Vice President underlined the importance of agriculture in the national economy and praised Indian farmers to achieve a record of food granules despite pandemics.
He visited several scientific institutions and told himself in new developments in research and development.
As part of his diplomatic involvement, the vice president led the 19th meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Council (SCO) held virtually in the national capital.
He also met with the Royal Foreign Minister Bahrain Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani and President of Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Duarte Pacheco at UPA-Rashtrapati Nivas.
The official channel of Rajya Sabha, RSTV touched the new height under Naidu’s leadership with a YouTube customer base increased from five lakhs to 59 lakh for the past four years, said the statement.
Also, then with the committee formed by the Chairman of Rajya Sabha, the new channel, TV Sansad formed by combining RSTV and LSTV, he said.
