Venkaiiah Naidu’s vice president calls for a ‘objective’ re-evaluation of Indian history

New Delhi: When the demands were raised from several quarters to change historical books, Venkaiiah Naidu vice-president on Wednesday called on “objective” re-evaluation of Indian history through facts-based research.
Suggest that the Indian colonial perspective of India has distorted the facts, he called for a new approach to Indian history, with more books about warriors and leaders of Indian freedom.
Naidu’s unconventional statement came when he released the ‘Gandhitopi Governor’ book written by Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad, Chair of the Official Language Commission, Andhra Pradesh, Upa-Rashtrapati Nivas (Residence President) in New Delhi.
Naidu urged youth to learn various aspects of the struggle of Indian freedom and waved lessons from the life of the freedom fighters.
He urged them to overcome the mindset of “splitting and rule” which was embedded in Indian minds during the colonial government and contributed to the nation’s development.
The vice president emphasized the need to issue more books about freedom fighters in various Indians because of this country celebrating ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’.
He asked countries to lead in this regard and publish books on leaders from their respective regions.
Naidu’s comments have significance because the sounds are lifted from a few quarters, especially historians and right-wing leaders, to rewrite Indian history.
They argue that history books, especially those who are official as published by the National Education and Education Training Council (NCERT), leaning.
According to these historians and leaders, the tradition, culture and knowledge of ancient Indian has not been discussed in detail.
They accused that the history of the medieval Indian gave the advantage of “undue” to Mughal and underestimate the strength of Indian rulers.
Regarding modern Indian history, they accused the old historical textbook to provide more important for some leaders of the struggle for freedom at the cost of others, not only from other parties but also from Congress.
Naidu’s comments in this background, therefore, hold the significance in this context.
Meanwhile, on this occasion, Vice President paid rich tribute to Edpuganti Raghavendra Rao, leading freedom fighters, legislators and central provincial governors in the British government.
This book records Rao’s life.
He remembered that Raghavendra Rao, even when working in the British government, continued his struggle for self-governance and Swaraj.
As governor, he also promotes Khadi by using it himself and serves as an example for others.
Referring to exemplary values that RAO in public life, Naidu suggested that today’s parliamentarians need introspection and imitate the high standards set by our freedom and constitutional makers.
Referring to several recent examples, he said the selected representatives must remember that “they cannot respect the parliament and reduce democracy”.
Naidu appreciates the efforts of the author of Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad for his efforts in bringing up a book.
